Oil Sands Operators' Greenhouse Gas Emissions (2004 - 2014) as reported to Environment Canada's Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting Program

Description

This item is a spreadsheet of Environment Canada's record of greenhouse gas emissions from oil sands facilities from 2004 - 2014. It has been extracted from Environment Canada's complete spreadsheet of all industry greenhouse gas emissions for this same period, which can be found at: http://ec.gc.ca/ges-ghg/default.asp?lang=En&n=8044859A-1. The complete data set was downloaded from this site, and the following steps were performed to isolate the oil sands facilities:

1. All rows from outside Alberta were removed.

2. Rows were further filtered to include only those with a Facility NAICS value of 211114 - Non-Conventional Oil Extraction.

Usage Considerations

Note that as of April 23, 2014, the original spreadsheet on Environment Canada's website contained an error. The project called "McKay Thermal Project" with a GHGRP ID of G10723 is sometimes identified with a NAICS code of Conventional Oil and Gas when it should be identified with a NAICS code of Non-Conventional Oil and Gas. This has been corrected in the spreadsheet found here, and Environment Canada is ensuring that it is corrected in their data as well.
